Pre-Treatment Instructions

In an ideal situation it is prudent to follow some simple guidelines before treatment. This can make all the difference between a fair result or great result by reducing some possible side effects associated with the injections. We realize this is not always possible; however, minimizing these risks is always desirable.

  • Patient must be in good health with no active skin infections, rashes, and acute or chronic skin issues in the areas to be treated.

  • Patient should not be needle phobic.

  • Patient should not have a history of eyelid or brow ptosis.

  • Patient should not have a history of surgical alterations in facial anatomy.

  • Patient should not have marked facial asymmetry.

  • Patient should not have deep facial scarring.

  • Patient should avoid alcoholic beverages, caffeine, and smoking for at least 24 hours prior to treatment. Alcohol, caffeine, and smoking increase the risk of bruising, swelling, and/or bleeding.

  • Patient should avoid anti-inflammatory/blood thinning medications for a period of two (2) weeks before treatment. Medications and supplements including but not limited to Aspirin, Vitamin E, Ginkgo Biloba, St. John’s Wort, Ibuprofen, Motrin, Advil, Aleve, Vioxx, and other NSAIDS are all blood thinning and can increase the risk of bruising/swelling/bleeding after injections.

  • Patient should schedule botulinum appointments at least 2 weeks prior to a special event which may be occurring, i.e., wedding, vacation, etc. It is not desirable to have a very special event occurring and be bruised from an injection which could have been avoided.

  • Patient should not be pregnant or breastfeeding/lactating.

  • Patient should not have current flu or cold symptoms.

  • Patient should avoid waxing, bleaching, or tweezing the area to be treated for 3 days prior to treatment.

  • Patient should not wear makeup on the day of the treatment.

  • A facial, peel, or micro-dermabrasion can be done on the same day only if they are done before the botulinum.

By showing up for your appointment, you acknowledge you have read and understand the above pre-treatment instructions.
