Pre-Treatment Instructions

In an ideal situation it is prudent to follow some simple guidelines before treatment. This can make all the difference between a fair result or great result by reducing some possible side effects associated with the injections.

  • Patient must be in good overall health with no active skin infections in the areas to be treated.

  • Patient should not be needle phobic.

  • Patient should not have developed a cold sore, blemish, infection, or rash, etc. prior to the filler appointment-- if so, appointment must be rescheduled.

    • *If you have a history of cold sores/herpes simplex one/oral herpes, you must notify the healthcare provider prior to arrival for your appointment*

  • Patient should not have a history of surgical alterations in facial anatomy.

    • Please advise the healthcare provider if you have had a surgical facelift in the past prior to your appointment.

  • AVOID: Alcohol, caffeine, Niacin supplements, high-sodium foods, high sugar foods, refined carbohydrates (you may eat fruit), spicy foods, straws, and cigarettes for three (3) days before and after your treatment. They may thin the blood which will increase the risk of bleeding/bruising.

  • Avoid dental procedures two (2) weeks prior to treatment.

  • Patient should avoid anti-inflammatory/blood thinning medications for a period of two (2) weeks before treatment and for one (1) week after treatment. Medications and supplements such as Aspirin, Vitamin E, Ginkgo Biloba, St. John’s Wort, Ibuprofen, Motrin, Advil, Aleve, Vioxx and other NSAIDS are all blood thinning and can increase the risk of bruising/swelling after injections.

  • NO Garlic, Flax Oil, Cod Liver Oil, Vitamin A, Vitamin E, or any other essential fatty acids for one (1) week before or after treatment.

  • Discontinue Retin-A two (2) days before and two (2) days after treatment.

  • Patient should schedule appointments at least 2 weeks prior to a special event which may be occurring, i.e., wedding, vacation, etc. due to the possibility of bruising.

  • Patient should not be pregnant or breastfeeding/lactating.

  • Patient should not have current flu or cold symptoms.

By showing up for your appointment, you acknowledge you have read and understand the above pre-treatment instructions.
